Spent many hours to play with PM tools today. Since we started MOZO, we have been looking for a great PM tool but haven’t met it yet.

Our situation and what we are looking for…

  • 31o5 have to manage teams and projects in Bangkok
  • Another PM of MOZO is in Tokyo
  • He can’t see what we are doing
  • We have some staff and sometimes freelancers
  • We need to share project information
  • Always have some projects running at the same time
  • Want to calculate cost, time etc with Gantt

These are what I tested, I just tested for few hours, so there could be lots of features i missed…

GanttProject

http://ganttproject.biz/

Simple Gantt Chart tool. Easy to use. Not an webapp, have to install. File can be on the server and shared. One file = One project, so this is not enough for me, I need to see multiple projects at the same time.

actually, each task can have sub task, so i can put many projects in one file… but little confusing to see.

Yutiti

http://www.yutiti.com/

Recommended by @luke_bkk, thanks. This is for construction development, but it’s good for software development, too. Webapp, free. UI sometimes freez. Handle multiple projects, can’t see each resources capacity, allocated days.

xfy planner

https://www.justsystems.com/jp/products/xfy_planner/

PM tool with lots of features, not a webapp. This seems very good but I couldn’t install it properly, this require Japanese system.

Google Calendar

https://www.google.com/calendar/

Not PM tool, but easy to see everybody’s schedule. I asked our staff to put what they do, then I can see who has free time, who takes too much time for a simple task etc. It can sync with iPhone calendar, so i can check evevrybody’s schedule anytime.

SugarCRM+Gantt

The plugin doesn’t support the latest version of SugarCRM… so didn’t even try.

ProjectManager.com

http://projectmanager.com

start from 45$. 30 days free trial. It seems there are too many features and complicated, but once i start using, it’s kind of easy, and gives me ideas of management. Eeach resource can have the value of cost per hour, so assigning task to resouce is actually the step to quote. I’m so bad about dealing with money, it would help.

but UI is bit too much and takes little time to load.

These are some more I haven’t tried yet… I will.

Anything else? please give me advice.

Actually, I need a Project Manager Management System… PMMS?

She says “life in this country has dealt me a red shirt” – finally we have a movement I can identify with – this has nothing to do with Thaksin – he has only opened our eyes – and for that some of us are grateful to him. We know he is as corrupt as they all are but at least he threw us a few pieces of the cake – the other people in power take it all.
