What is Lightning Talks?　#barcamppp

I’m now at #BarcampPP happening in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The voting system is same as KL, Singapore version, not like Bnagkok version, you can just put your topics on the time schedule.

One room was left at the first session, 10:00 – 11:00, but seems like many of the campers were still shy, nobody tried to fill in, so I just put “Lightning talks” at room Phnom Pros.

It seems like most of people had no idea about Lightning talks like I used to be at the first Barcamp I joined. We should have introduce about it, it’s the good way to take part in the event.

5 min each, any topics by anybody

Many people are shy to talk in front of many people, or 1 hour is little too long for the topic etc. Lightning talks is easy to join, anybody can speak anything about 5 min.

Poken, digital contact information exchange gadget by @preetamrai

Poken is a little gadget which is popular in Japan. You can save your contact info, social networking IDs etc. When you meet someone, you can touch his/her poken to exchange the data.

If you don’t want to give much information, you can have safe mode.

Asking about starting up in Cambodia by me @31o5

There were many Cambodians, so I asked them about startups in Cambodia. Lightning talks doesn’t have to be YOUR topic, you can actually ask others to give you ideas.

Monopoly Phnom Penh by @thomaswanhoff

It’s cool. Monopoly now has online monopoly which usinng GoogleMaps, it means you can buy land on the game in almost every cities on GoogleMaps.

Introducing GeoDjango by @jfxberns

Django is powerful framework of Python. GeoDjango let you to work on Mapping web apps with Django very easily :)

Actually, 5 min is little too short… maybe, but many people must have many little topics we can share. Lightning talks is the time to do :)

Topics can be anything, I want to listen about “Night clubs to go in PP” or little Khmer lesson etc :D

If any room was not booked, we can just setup lightning talks to share little ideas.
