philosopher and programming

One of my staff asked me “Why do we have to be born?”, “What is the purpose of the life?”, I said “I don’t know”.

From his point of view, there are 2 types of people, one has to have answer for everything, and another one is not.

I said “I don’t know” because I really don’t know. Do we need purpose or is there any purpose? Even if there are no purpose or reason, I’m here and alive, so what’s the matter? If I say I’m here and alive, but if my brain didn’t understand it, am I exist?

Things surprised me is that most of people he asked the same questions have their own answer. I can’t even think of any.

He said most of programmers has answers, programmers has to have the reason why things is like that. For me, my reason is “because it’s like that”, or “because I want” or “I like” etc. It’s enough reason to judge stuff.

I’m not a programmer, I do some but not much and my programming skill is not enough to feed myself. But I wanna be like a programmer, to figure out stuff.

He sometimes asks me such philosophical questions, then every time I say “I don’t know”. Interesting guy. I don’t want anybody to judge or limit my capability, but it’s interesting to talk and think about things like that.

Do you have answers?
